The China Institute of Nuclear Industry Strategy (CINIS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and is directly subordinate to it. It was formed by the integration of several institutions including the China Institute of Nuclear Information & Economics, the Institute for Standardization of Nuclear Industry, and the Computer Application Institute of the Nuclear Industry and Archives of the Nuclear Industry.  

The tasks undertaken by CINIS involve major issue research, technical services, consulting and research entrusted by CNNC and its specialized companies and directly affiliated units; as well as a wide range of technical services for other enterprises and institutions, such as information research, standards provision, and book publishing.

Some of CINIS' findings have provided important support for the national development of policies and measures, the preparation of industry planning, and the optimization of project management. CINIS, in cooperation with others regularly issues authoritative reports, such as the Report on China Nuclear Energy Development. As the counterpart in China of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC85), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC/TC45) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (INIS), CINIS plays an active part in international standards activities and exchange of information resources in the nuclear field.

Meanwhile, CINIS provides social services in the following capacities:

-INIS Center of China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA)

-Secretariat of the National Technical Committee on Standardization of Nuclear Energy

-Secretariat of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Nuclear Instrumentation

-Secretariat of the Committee on Standardization of Nuclear Industry, and

-Secretariat of the Technical Committee on Nuclear Power Standardization in the Energy industry.

It is exclusively responsible for the management of standards and archives of CNNC and China's nuclear industry as a whole.
